Way to calculate the number of wall tiles
To calculate the exact wall area, you should use the following formula:
- Total wall area (m2) = length (m) x height (m)2) = chiều dài (m) x chiều cao (m)
- Area to be tiled = Total area – loss area (window and main door)
You can also calculate the number of tiles/boxes that need to be tiled in more detail by:
- Number of tiles = Area to be tiled / Area of 1 tile
- In which, area of 1 tile is:
The area of 1 brick (m2) =2length (m) x width (m)
Example: Supposed that the room has a length of 5m - a width of 3m, 300×300 tiles are used for tiled. We calculate the number of tiles to buy as follows:
Total wall area = 5 x 3 = 15 m22
Area to be tiled (after subtracting 3m2 windows)2) =15 – 3 =12m2.
If purchased by each tile:
Tile area 300×300 mm = 0.3m x 0.3m = 0.09m22
Number of tiles to buy = 12m22 / 0,09m2 = 134 tiles
If purchased by the box:
Depending on the packing specifications, different brands will give different m2/box

Number of boxes to buy = 12m2 / 0.99 = 12 boxes
Way to calculate the number of floor tiles
The calculation is similar to the method to calculate the number of wall tiles, you also apply the formula:
- Total wall area (m2) = length (m) x height (m)2) = chiều dài (m) x chiều cao (m)
- Area to be tiled = Total area – loss area
At the same time, you also apply the method of calculating the number of tiles to be tiled by:
Number of tiles = Area to be tiled / Area of 1 tile
- In which, area of 1 tile is:

For example: Supposed that the room has a length of 7m - a width of 5m, use 600×600 tiles for the floor. We calculate the number of tiles to buy as follows:
Total wall area = 7 x 5 = 35 m22
If purchased by each tile:
Diện tích viên gạch 600×600 mm = 0,6m x 0,6m = 0,36 m2
Number of tiles to buy = 35 m2 / 0.36 m2 = 98 tiles2 / 0,36 m2 = 98 viên
If purchased by the box:
For products of CMC KT 600 × 600 of CMC, packing specifications are as follows:
01 box = 04 tiles = 1.44 m22
Number of boxes to buy = 35m22 / 1.44 m2 = 25 boxes (rounded)
Notes
You should pay attention to a few brief notes in addition to using the formulas above to compute the number of tiles:
- You should buy an extra 1 or 2 boxes after determining the number of tiles you'll need to avoid damage during shipment, tile cutting, and other processes.
- If the project requires a big number of tiles, it should be separated into many batches so that the number of tiles in the final batch may be determined in order to purchase enough.
- For spaces with complex areas, divide them into smaller ones for the easiest calculation.
